Ilan Spira story of Dave

איני מאמין בחברה הזקוקה לגיבורים. לעיתים, גיבור צומח מתוך סיפור טרגי שמרים אותו מעלה למקום של כבוד ששמור ליחידים. אך יש כאלה שזכו מעצם פועלם לזכות בתהילת עולם, גם אם חיו את חייהם האישיים מבלי לדעת או לרצות בזכות להיות חלק בלתי נפרד מחייהם של רבים אחרים.
דיוויד בלקבורן, כוכב נבחרת ארה”ב בסופטבול, כיכב ב7 מכביות והיה אימת כל השחקנים שניצבו מולו. טוב ליבו על המגרש ומחוצה לו מהווים השראה עד היום הזה.
לפני מספר שנים, בעקבות תאונת דרכים קשה, נשברו 56 עצמות בגופו והיה קרוב מרחק צעד אחד מהמוות. את התאונה שרד והשנה הגיע למכביה להתחרות במכבית הנכים בענף הטניס שולחן.
אתמול, קיבל הזדמנות של כבוד לזרוק את הכדור הראשון במשחק הגמר בענף הסופטבול בין ארה”ב לקנדה.
בשנה האחרונה באימונים לקראת התחרות ובעיקר בשלבים האחרונים, נזכרתי בדמותו של דייב שנתנה לי כוח להמשיך את חלום המכביה ולהתעלם מהקושי והכאב. החברות ביננו חיזקה את האהבה שלי לענף הסופטבול ובעיקר את הכבוד שלי לדייב בלקבורן.
דייב יקר, במאבקך להצלת אחרים כמוני בעצם היצלת את נפשך שלך.

I do not believe in a society that needs heroes. A hero sometimes grows from a tragic story that lifts him up to a place reserved for few. However there are some that deserve it from their acts for world’s fame, even though they have lived their personal lives, not knowing or wanting to become invisible part of lives of many others.
David Blackburn. a star of US softball team in 7 Maccabiah was the fear for all players who stood against him. His kindness the field and out of it is still a source of inspiration till this very day.
A few years ago, following a serious car accident, he suffered 56 broken bones in his body and he himself was one step from death
However he pulled though this accident and came this year to participate in the special games for the Maccabiah games for the handicapped in ping-pong.
Yesterday he was honored to pitch the first ball in the final softball game between US and Canada.
In the past year during training for games especially in the final stages, I remember Dave’s image which gave me the will to continue the Maccabiah dream and disregard the difficulties and pain. Our friendship strengthened my love for softball and mainly by admiration of Dave Blackburn
Dear Dave, by your struggle you saved others like me by carrying your own soul.
See you again in 4 good and healthy years from now.
